Wip. Plant prints using weeds and paper offcuts to celebrate Earth Day (which is later this month) - done in the Cultural Quarter Early @leicesterprintworkshop today. It’s a drop-in activity for everyone - mostly families. I don’t usually post photos of activities outside my practice but the prints were so nice and the delicateness of the material and handling fits the way I work and my ideas. Thanks to volunteer Adam who did most of work! I’ve finally made use of my learning from @lucymayschofield and did asanoha toji (hemp binding, a Japanese bookbinding method). For a change, and for my idea testing, there are contents in this book! It’s inspired by Islamic geometry that I learned from @safiraarts but instead of a straightforward exploration of drawing, it’s exploring the process of basic construction of a six-fold pattern, drawing circles as a base. I always get drawn by layering and this time I’ve made separate, six mokuhanga woodblocks for me to play with layer permutations… and I thought about making a book. Learning at @leicesterprintworkshop is currently coming together nicely for my practice. I just need more sophistication! These are my work from the Islamic Geometry for Beginners course at @leicesterprintworkshop Thank you Safira @safiraarts for this inspirational course. I will continue to do circles, stars, weaves, 4 folds and 6 folds with my precious old compasses made by my late father-in-law. I am learning Islamic geometry (for beginners) run by @safiraarts at @leicesterprintworkshop . Last week I’ve been good and did my homework. The tutor Safira is knowledgeable, intelligent and kind. I’m really inspired and will probably use this type of drawing in my practice. It is a nice press, I am inspired to make something with it. Pigments from Japan - looks like one of my next endeavour for the New Year will be paint/ink making. Enjoying using the new arsenals.
